TITLE: “FORGIVE YOURSELF”
INSPIRATION: It’s time to forgive and let go of what you did in the past, you are already forgiven.
Isaiah 43:18 “Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past.”
Forgiveness is very significant to the Kingdom of God, without it, you can’t move in the kingdom. As a matter of fact, that is where all things begin. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”. You know why? Because God also forgives; this is the first thing He gives everyone because of His love even before they are born-again in Christ. This is why anyone who is ready to enter the kingdom is immediately accepted! ‘Cause he’s forgiven!
But there’s an unforgiveness that is fatal and not easily recognized, not forgiving yourself; it is also an act of unforgiveness. As a young Christian, one of the virtues I had to learn is to forgive myself. It was easy to forgive others because the bible points it out directly but forgiving yourself is a hidden treasure that one would search out. I grew up making things very perfect and didn’t like to make mistakes; when I gave my life to Christ, I wanted to be perfect for God. I didn’t want to sin, backslide or fall. I forgot that I was human and not yet in my glorious body. I would be so angry with myself if I did anything wrong or anything I didn’t think I would ever do as a born-again Christian. One day, after seeking forgiveness, I was really lamenting on how I have failed God, bla bla bla, for days! When God was tired of my lamentations... lol! He just told me “I have forgiven you for all of these things you bother yourself about, you already learnt the remedy to the situation, don’t you think you should forgive yourself too?” Sincerely, that struck me! God has forgiven me, and I believe Him; I have learnt my lesson but why have I not forgiven myself? I wonder!
If God can forgive and give us another chance, why can’t we forgive ourselves? This is not to say we should keep sinning because Grace abounds, remember, its consequences may lead to destruction. After learning from our mistakes, we must forgive ourselves and let go. You truly know you have forgiven yourself, when the situation crosses your mind and you don’t bother about it anymore. God loves you and want to see you prosper, but, it starts with you!
